Chapter 5 Can You Actually Prick a Human?
Chanel sat on the bed in the room next to Kingsley’s on the third floor. The Axton family and the other two brothers stood at the end of the bed.
Chanel did not dare to cry, nor did she dare to speak. She just looked at the three people helplessly.
“Chanel, I’ve put the oatmeal on the table. Remember to eat it. I’m leaving,” said Sean with a smirk on his face.
“Chanel, your room is very clean. I’ll come over tomorrow to take another look. I won’t disturb you now.” Duncan’s voice was gentle and pleasant to hear.
Just as he walked to the door, Duncan turned back. “Oh, and this ankle injury is no small matter. You cannot move for 48 to 72 hours. It is best to lie on the bed and rest. Apply a cold compress to reduce swelling and pain. I will get something to place pressure on it. You should also get something that can lift your legs up a bit.”
Chanel nodded, dazed. She crawled about on the bed but could not find anything to lift her legs.
Kingsley’s gaze was glued onto Chanel’s ankle. He watched her crawl around the bed like a snail.
He turned, went to the cabinet to get a quilt, and threw it on Chanel. Chanel flailed around in the quilt, finally managing to crawl out of it. She looked at Kingsley’s cold face and was so intimidated that she lowered her head at once. “Thank you.”
Duncan came in with the gauze and the ice bag. After wrapping Chanel’s ankle with the gauze, he handed the ice bag to Chanel. “You can do small things like cold compressing it. Good night.”
Watching Duncan leave, Kingsley left.
Chanel was like a one-legged creature. She hobbled into the bathroom to shower and then hobbled out. She lost her balance and fell onto the wet tiles. It hurt so badly that her eyes glimmered. She felt like her waist was about to snap in half.
—–
The following day, Sean slept in and did not get up.
Duncan got up and fiddled with his new specimen.
Kingsley came down from the gym on the fourth floor and returned to his room to take a shower.
The three brothers had completely forgotten that there was still one person at home who needed to be taken care of.
Chanel’s foot hurt so much that she had not slept well the entire night. Yesterday, she had fallen so badly that half of her body had hurt. Looking at the time on her phone, Chanel hobbled into the bathroom and washed herself up. Then she changed her clothes.
Feeling great pain, she quickly went to lie down on the bed.
Kingsley changed his clothes at ten o’clock in the morning and went downstairs. He happened to bump into his aunt, Dana. “Kingsley, is Chanel better?”
“I don’t know. Ask Duncan.” Kingsley held the car keys and phone in his hand. He was ready to go out.
“Why are you asking me? Aren’t you the one taking care of her, brother?”
Duncan said as he went downstairs in search of food. “Sean stayed up all night last night and hasn’t gotten up yet.”
Dana’s face shifted at once. She confiscated Kingsley’s car keys. “I have to take your grandfather to the company office. Go and see how the girl is doing.” As she spoke, Dana walked up to Duncan and snatched the utensils in his hands. “Do you still have the nerve to eat? I told you all to take care of her. If three of you men can’t take care of one girl, you may as well go and be janitors.”
Dana was furious.
“Mrs. Collins, you don’t have to prepare lunch today. These three brats are not allowed to eat. Go and wake Sean up.”
The older man stood solemnly at the entrance of the living room. “Kingsley, you are the Axton family’s heir. How can you be so irresponsible?”
Kingsley and Duncan looked at each other. No one said anything and went upstairs at once.
The three brothers knocked on Chanel’s door and entered the room. Chanel did not sleep well last night and had slept for a while in a daze. When she opened her eyes and saw the three people in the room, she was so scared that she jumped up from the bed. Because of the sudden movement, she pulled on her back and her waist. It hurt so badly that her forehead was covered in a sheen of sweat.
“It’s alright. Let me see how your foot is recovering,”
Duncan said gently.
Sean placed the breakfast on the table.
Kingsley stood motionless at the door.
Duncan untied the gauze and carefully checked it. The swelling was gone, but the bruise was more serious. “I’ll get the needle.”
“Th… the needle?”
Chanel watched Duncan leave and quickly covered her legs with the quilt. “I… I’m fine now.”
Kingsley stood there expressionlessly, watching Duncan come in with a first-aid kit.
“I’m telling you, needles can reduce pain, improve your blood flow, and open up clogged veins. Lie down. I’ll poke a few of them into your skin.”
Duncan opened the box. There were all kinds of tools in it. Chanel looked at the row of long needles in the box Duncan opened. She was so scared that her palms turned sweaty. She recoiled. “I don’t want the needles. My foot doesn’t hurt anymore.”
“It’s alright. It will be fine in a while.” Duncan took the alcohol swab and looked at Kingsley at the door. There was nothing he could do if the little girl did not cooperate with him.
Sean swept his bangs. “It’s okay. It’s just a few needles. It’ll be over as fast as you can blink.”
Chanel was so scared that she pulled the quilt over her body and nearly cried. “I don’t want to!”
Kingsley strode to Chanel’s side and pulled off the quilt in her hand. “Sit tight.”
Chanel turned over and was about to get off the other side of the bed, but she was pulled back by Kingsley. Looking at the row of long needles, Chanel felt dizzy and cried, “I’m afraid of needles. My foot doesn’t hurt anymore. Don’t stab me.”
“Don’t worry. It doesn’t hurt at all,” Duncan patiently advised her.
Sean looked at the needle and felt a little nervous. “Duncan, you’ve only ever pricked your specimens. Can you prick actual humans?”
With one sentence, Chanel burst into tears. So, Duncan had never even pricked anyone before. Her heart was about to leap out. She struggled and nearly rolled off the bed.
Kingsley gave Sean a warning look, and Sean quickly closed his mouth.
Kingsley sat by the bed and gripped Chanel’s upper body. “Hold her legs.”
“Using force again?” Sean looked at his big brother and quickly climbed onto the bed. He pressed his hand on Chanel’s leg. Chanel was firmly held and could not move at all. She was so scared that she kept crying.
She looked at Kingsley with a tear-stricken face. Chanel felt like her heart was about to explode. “Kingsley, I’m afraid of needles. I beg you.”
Kingsley ignored Chanel’s crying and held her back expressionlessly.
“Don’t move. Don’t blame us if your veins are paralyzed.” Sean pressed down on Chanel’s legs.
The upper half of Chanel’s body was tightly locked in Kingsley’s arms. Her legs were firmly pressed by Sean. Looking at the silver needle in Duncan’s hand, Chanel screamed, but no one cared. Her eyes glazed over, and she fainted.
