Chapter7

Kassandra

After chatting with Liz, I had more questions pouring into my mind after she revealed the dragon’s gentle nature. Now a part of thinks that my father may have been wrong but, the other is telling that he is right and Drago is just deceiving me.

I couldn’t trust Drago and I have to get away from him before he tries anything with me. I got out of the cave after Liz told me to wait in the room where the other girls were but, I wasn’t waiting around for him so I managed to run when I got the chance.

I walked over to the edge of the forest that Liz warned me about but, I ignored her warning as I walked into the woods.

“I wouldn’t go in there if I were you,” A familiar voice spoke up which made me jump out of my skin.

Drago stood there with a smirk plastered onto his face and I said to him.

“Where the hell did you come from and how did you know that I was here?!”

“I had a feeling you would have ignored Liz’s warnings about the forest so I waited here for you.”

I took a few steps back and then Drago said to me.

“I know you don’t trust me right now but, what Liz has told you is true, we are not the monsters that you humans made us out to be.”

“I don’t believe you! I don’t believe a word that comes out of that mouth of yours! my father has always told me to never trust a word of a dragon because they will turn their back on you! look at what happened to my mother!”

“What happened to your mother was years ago and we had nothing to do with it. The dragons who came before me knew about this including my father! he told me what happened!”

“Oh yeah, and what did he tell you? a rogue dragon who acted so peaceful turned traitor and murdered my mother?!”

Drago

‘Ugh, King Scott has convinced his daughter and now she thinks we’re evil. She’s gonna take longer to convince than the women I’ve met on this mountain.’

I thought to myself as I watched my mate take a few steps back as she inched closer to the woods.

“Look, Kassandra, whatever King Scott has told you about us, it is a pack of lies.”

“No! my father told me what happened to my mother, how do you expect me to trust you?!”

“I guess I’ll have to prove it,” I spoke with a grin before shifting into my dragon form.

Kassandra

I gasped in fear when he shifted into his dragon form.

“Oh hell no! I’m out of here!”

I shouted as I tried to make a run for it but, Drago caught me in time. I screamed when he grabbed me and then he lifted me. I struggled to get out of his grip and he wasn’t letting me go.

“Put me down, you overgrown lizard!! put me down!!” I yelled as I hit his talons but, he refused to let me down.

Drago started walking with me still in his hand. I continued to shout and struggle out of his grip but then, he raised his hand to put me on his back.

“Wait! what are you doing?!”

Drago glanced over his shoulder and I swore I saw him smirking at me. Suddenly, he opened his wings and then he started flapping them and then we took into the sky. I screamed and I held onto his spikes for dear life when we took off into the sky.

I closed my eyes tightly and I was scared when we flew into the sky. Just then, I heard a voice in my head.

“Kassandra, it’s okay.”

I opened my eyes a little and I realised that voice had belonged to Drago.

“Drago?” I asked him.

“Yes, open your eyes and look around you.”

“I can’t!” I shouted in a panic tone before closing my eyes tightly and gripping onto his spikes for dear life.

“Yes you can, I promise you it’s not so bad and I won’t drop you, look.”

I slowly opened my eyes and we were high up in the sky. I slowly raised my upper body and I was surprised when I saw the view.

We were high up in the clouds and the sky was bright. I looked down and I saw a lot of mountains and some of them were covered in snow. I also spotted a few of them were poking through the clouds.

“Wow…” I mumbled.

“See? it’s not so bad, trusting a word of a Dragon isn’t it?”

“Don’t get full of yourself, I still don’t trust you.”

“That’s understandable,” Drago spoke with a smile on his face.

“How can you talk to me in my mind?” I asked him with a curious look on my face.

“That’s what happens when a dragon finds his mate. Once we find them, we can communicate with them through the mink-link. It’s the same with the witches, Wizards and other magical creatures.”

I was surprised by this fact and then we heard roaring in the distance. I looked around and then we saw a few more dragons flying next to us.

“Looks like it’s feeding time.”

“Wait, what?! you’re gonna eat me?!”

“Hahaha! relax, we don’t eat humans and if we did, our human mates wouldn’t be here right now would they?”

“I…guess not.”

I mumbled and then Drago flew downwards and I held onto him tightly. We got to a large lake and we saw dragons in different colours and sizes. I also spotted some of the women on the dragons’ back and Liz was there too on a black-blue Dragon’s back which I assume is Midnight.

Drago hovered above the water and then he told me.

“We come here to get our food and of course, our mates join us to watch us or to catch their dinner.”

“I see, I’m relieved none of the women starved to death by you guys.”

“Hey, we’re not as cruel as you think we are. You might not see it right now but, you will in time.”

Just then, I saw bubbles in the water and then we saw several water dragons leap out of the water and some of them were tossing a lot of fish out of the water. Some of the dragons caught the fish while their mates were squealing in excitement or laughing.

“They’re enjoying this?”

“What’s with that reaction? you’ve never had fun before, Princess?”

“I do have fun,” I lied and Drago clearly can see this.

“Lier, when was the last time you hung out with friends? didn’t you even left the castle before you came here?”

I was about to respond but, I sighed a little.

“Not really no, my father always kept an eye on me and he never allowed me to leave the castle grounds without having Leo, my bodyguard, to watch over me.”

“Boring! it’s about time you had some fun, hang on tight.”

I looked at him confused before he flew downwards making me hold onto him for dear life when he dived down. I closed my eyes tightly when he sped up and when he was catching the fish with his mouth.

I squealed when some of the fish landed near us.

“Don’t fly so close to the fish! *Gag!* it’s making me vomit!”

“Hahahaha! man, I completely forgot you royals are not used to stuff like this.”

“It’s not that, I don’t like fish! I tried it when I was a kid and it makes me sick!”

Drago chuckled before he flew away from the lake. Once we were far away from the other dragons and the lake, Drago lands on the ground while I wiped off the slime from my arms where the fish landed on me and I mumbled.

“Great, now I’m going to stink of rotten fish for a week.”

“It’s not that bad.”

“Easy for you to say.”

Drago chuckled as walks back to the cave with me still on his back. I smiled a little and I thought to myself.

‘Boy…I can’t remember the last time I smiled like this. How long has it been since I had this much fun? I guess it was before my mother died.’

I rested my folded arms on Drago’s back and I stared at the sun setting sky.

“…So that’s what the world is like when you dragons are flying up there, huh?”

“Yeah, why?”

“Well…I guess I never felt what it was like to be free.”

Drago continued to listen as he made his way back to the cave.

“When I young, my mother and I would go exploring together especially when we used to leave the castle. I always loved running through the flower field and it became our special place but, I haven’t been there since she died. My father made sure to keep me in the castle so he can keep an eye on me and whenever I left the castle grounds, I always needed a bodyguard with me. I don’t mind Leo’s company but…”

“It was still suffocating for you, wasn’t it?”

“Yes,” I nodded my head.

We got back to the treasure room and then Drago raised his hand and then he grabs me with his talons. Drago carefully and gently places me onto the animal skinned rug before I turned to look at him.

“You don’t need to feel like that anymore because you’re not in that prison you call home. I know you don’t trust us Dragons yet but, believe me when I say this; we are not evil and we will give our mates the freedom they deserve, including you.”

When I saw that soft look on his face, I saw no evil within those red eyes but, kindness?

I slowly and carefully raised my hand and then I touched his snout. The moment I touched him, I felt sparks course through my arm and that made me shiver a little. I didn’t know what that meant but…I liked it. I looked at Drago and then he closed his eyes while nudging his head a little to make me stroked his face.

I smiled a little and then I slowly and gently petted his face. Drago pulled away for a moment before he went around me to wrap his body around me. He rested his head near my body before he nudged his head on my arm to let me know that he wants me to keep petting him.

“Drago, do me a favour? stay like this a little longer, I just…let me get used to you in this …at least that way, I know that you won’t hurt me.”

Drago understood this before he closed his eyes while I gently stroked his head and leaning my body against him.
